Investment Manager

Do I need an Investment Manager?

A Financial Adviser recommends financial products to you. A Financial Planner is the coach that ensures you are getting closer to your financial goals, such as retirement. The Investment Manager looks after all the investments held within your financial products. In essence the investment manager is the one that helps to make your savings grow.

What must an Investment Manager be good at?
  • Making your life savings grow
What’s an Investment Manager usually poor at?
  • Financial Advice and Financial Planning
What is a Wealth Manager then?

Many firms call themselves Wealth Managers which can sound a little pretentious. It simply means that they should be able to offer a combination of services. A true wealth management firm should have both qualified Financial Planners and Investment Managers within it. However if the firm is particularly large, such as a Bank or a large upmarket sales-force (no names mentioned), of course they are Wealth Managers but you never meet the individuals who actually make your investment decisions.

Is H.J.Scott & Co. an Investment Manager?

Here at H.J.Scott & Co., we started 28 years ago as Financial Advisers. We graduated to become true Financial Planners around the same time as we went fee only in 2005. When we became the custodian of our clients plans and aspirations we also became the trusted stewards of our clients life-savings. Initially we entrusted these life-savings to life-assurance companies and external fund managers, but the results were hardly convincing. So as my Mum says, “If you want something doing right then do it yourself”. We embarked on a journey which has led us to take full responsibility for managing almost £55 million. That journey is described here. We are now Financial Planners who actively take a leading role of ensuring your life savings grow. That makes us fairly unique in the Bolton area and the Northwest as a whole for a firm our size. We hold the Investment Management Certificate and the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification. With H.J.Scott & Co you get to look into the eyes of the people you have entrusted your life savings with.
